Therapy Style

Who do I work with?

My style is warm, non-judgmental and validating. My hope- in collaboration with what you want from therapy- is to support you in building your inner resourcing and support systems so that you feel prepared to move through the difficult parts of life and feel supported through them.

I love when you tell me how you want to use the session.

__________

Some of the tools available for use in therapy sessions are:

Inner Child Work/ Parts Work: taking time to connect, listen, hold space for and show up for younger part of ourselves by using our imagination and somatic awareness

EMDR: reconsolidating memory associations with the use of “bilateral stimulation” to access and “install” more adaptive information and beliefs about self

Relational/ Immediacy: using the therapy relationship to address interpersonal dynamics, create more space for vulnerability and need, and define healthy relational needs for self

Psychodynamics: connecting present experiences to early life experiences to expand context and access more self compassion and understanding

Art: using art/ creative mediums during sessions can support movement and processing of emotion, while also holding space for self expression and connection to creativity

“Can we just do talk therapy?” Yes, AND, if you think intellectualization of emotions may be a defensive mechanism for you, keeping you from the pain of emotional states, then I encourage and challenge us to try tapping into the pool of emotions little by little at a pace that feels safe for you. Let’s talk about this.

____________

I stand in solidarity with folks who have been targeted for marginalization, fellow queer folks, persons of color, folks with disabilities, folks with chronic illnesses, folks in larger bodies, folks with neurodivergences, folks who have chosen non-traditional relationship styles, folks who experience financial and housing insecurity, and folks who have experienced prolonged trauma or chaotic family home life.

Let’s connect. We are allowed to try out the connection, and if you’re feeling like it’s not the right fit for you, I can help you find someone who is.

Benefits and Limitations of Therapy

Therapy can be a starting place, or a stepping stone during an ongoing journey to support yourself. Using a therapy relationship to receive unbiased, nonjudgmental, genuine emotional support can increase self esteem and feelings of worthiness, while also providing the experience of being known, understood and valued for your authentic self.

A therapy relationship is one small part of a larger puzzle, which looks different for everyone. A therapist can help you figure out which puzzle pieces are important for your life.

Everyone deserves emotional support. It can be painful to have to outsource our emotional support needs to a transaction.

I support building a world where folks have access to the support they need right within their community. I support building a world where the transaction of therapy does not need to exist.

For now, we can use therapy to develop meaningful connections, learn to address the pain in our relationships, gain a deeper understanding of ourself, and use the consciousness of the therapy relationship to inform other important relationships in our lives.
